Job description

People who are passionate about their craft, invested in their teammates, and driven to continually learn, grow, and improve.

We’re looking for a Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our Los Angeles team. This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on a diverse range of projects while developing technical expertise, professional judgment, and leadership capabilities that will shape your career.

If you’re curious, ambitious, and excited by the challenge of turning complex problems into practical solutions, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:
  • Use your creativity and expertise to develop structural solutions for world-class projects
  • Manage projects and teams
  • Manage financial aspects of projects
  • Assist with internal QA/QC design and drawing reviews
  • Develop and foster key client relationships
  • Support marketing and business development efforts
  • Train, mentor and develop younger engineers
  • Assist with maintaining and developing the firm’s design standards and AI/automation initiatives

The Los Angeles office offers the unique opportunity to work in a small, entrepreneurial environment while benefiting from the resources, expertise, and support of our larger organization in British Columbia. With a collaborative local team, this senior role will have meaningful exposure to all facets of the business—from design and project delivery to marketing, client relationships, and business development.

For the right person, this environment provides significant opportunity to broaden their impact, take on increasing responsibility, and help shape the continued growth of the Los Angeles office. It is an ideal fit for someone who values autonomy, variety, and the ability to make a visible contribution, rather than being one part of a much larger corporate structure.

How We Show Up:

At Glotman•Simpson, success is about more than technical ability. We’re looking for people who embody our values and bring them to life through their actions every day.

  • Humbly Confident – You bring confidence to your work without ego. You’re willing to share your ideas, learn from others, and let the quality of your work speak for itself.
  • Passionate – You take pride in your craft and care deeply about the projects you contribute to. You enjoy solving problems and continually looking for ways to improve.
  • Relationship-First – You build trust through consistency, respect, and follow-through. You recognize that great projects are built on great relationships.
  • Own It – You take accountability for your work, your commitments, and your growth. You step up, take initiative, and see things through.
  • Always Hungry – You seek opportunities to learn, grow, and take on new challenges. Whether it’s tackling a new project, mastering a new skill, or stepping into a leadership opportunity, you’re excited by what’s possible.
  • Agile in Nature – You adapt to changing priorities, remain focused on solutions, and approach challenges with curiosity and flexibility.
What You’ll Bring:
  • 7+ years of structural design experience
  • Master’s degree with specialization in structural engineering
  • Structural design experience in post-tensioned concrete, reinforced concrete, wood, masonry and steel
  • Strong technical understanding of seismic design principles and structural dynamics
  • A working knowledge of the California Building Code and relevant design standards (i.e. AISC, ACI, NDS)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects and deadlines
  • E. license required
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret drawing plans
Why Join Us?
  • The Projects – Work on world-class projects alongside experienced engineers and industry leaders.
  • Your Growth – Build your career in an environment where initiative is recognized, growth is encouraged, and opportunities come to those ready to step up.
  • Exposure – Gain exposure to a wide variety of building types, structural systems, and project teams.
  • Mentorship – Learn from mentors who are invested in your success and committed to helping you reach your potential.
  • Culture – Join a team that pushes each other to grow, celebrates wins together, and believes great work should be enjoyable.
