Job summary

GAMARC Consulting seeks an Associate Principal to lead and manage large-scale structural engineering projects from concept through completion at our Los Angeles headquarters.

The role includes developing client relationships, mentoring engineers and BIM designers, and contributing to business development while ensuring high-quality, cost-effective designs across multiple market sectors.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a US Masters in Structural Engineering and SE license.
  • Minimum 12+ years building design experience in the US.
  • Strong leadership of engineers and BIM designers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage large-scale structural projects from concept to completion.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Oversee project teams including engineers and BIM designers.
  • Provide technical leadership in complex Type I construction.
  • Contribute to business development and expand the firm’s portfolio.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors and consultants to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.
  • Mentor future leaders within the firm.

Job description

The client is looking to hire an Associate Principal for its Los Angeles headquarters. This senior leadership position is responsible for overseeing large and complex structural engineering projects while actively supporting business development, team management, and client relations. In this role, the Associate Principal contributes to the firms strategic expansion by securing new projects, cultivating client partnerships, and mentoring emerging leaders within the structural engineering field.

Must-Have Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum 12+ years of building design experience.
  • Education: Masters degree in Structural Engineering from a U.S. university.
  • License: SE License (required).
Technical Expertise:
  • Strong experience with Type I construction (steel and concrete structures).
  • Ability to design and detail large, complex structural systems across multiple market sectors.
  • Proven ability to lead teams of engineers and BIM designers.
  • Strong track record in seismic evaluation and retrofit design (ASCE 41 is a plus).
  • Experience with DSA and HCAI/OSHPD is a plus.
Leadership & Business Development:
  • Recognized as a leader in the industry with established client relationships.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to develop and maintain new clients.
  • Ability to act as a decisive leader and mentor within the firm.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
  • Specialized expertise in a specific technical area or market sector.
  • Experience working on high-rise, commercial, aviation, healthcare, and institutional projects.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
