Job summary

Protingent is seeking a Civil Structural Engineer for a direct-hire role in Oak Brook, IL. You will lead calculations, review designs, and ensure ASME compliance across BPVC Sections III and VIII and B31.1/B31.3 interfaces, with emphasis on heavy industrial structures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or related discipline (Civil/Mechanical).
• 5+ years in heavy industrial structural design, preferably nuclear/energy sectors.
• Strong knowledge of ASME BPVC Sections III and VIII is highly desired.
• Experience leading multi-discipline design efforts and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the authority on ASME BPVC III/VIII and ASME B31.1/B31.3.
• Author and review engineering calculations to certify compliance with standards and procedures.
• Audit outputs from drafters and vendors to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain high integrity by enforcing work processes and technical reviews.
• Evaluate structural integrity against seismic and blast loadings.
• Develop cost-effective, buildable designs for skids, foundations, modules, and supports.
• Conduct pipe stress calculations for nozzle loads and thermal movements.
• Interface with Authorized Inspectors during third-party reviews and audits.
• Collaborate with mechanical, piping, and process engineers to prevent load transfer issues.
• Support ASME compliance documentation with system engineers.
• Mentor junior structural engineers on code calculations and FEA tooling.
• Stay current on advanced reactor technologies and industry developments.
• Contribute to internal policy and standard work improvements.
