Job summary

Southern Company Services, Technical Shared Services – Design Civil/Structural, Birmingham, AL, seeks a Structural Engineer to deliver design for capital and retrofit projects within the Southern Company fleet.

The role involves hybrid work, travel up to 25%, and collaboration with Plant contacts and the project team to produce robust engineering deliverables. A PE/SE or equivalent is preferred with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil or Structural Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• PE or SE license in AL/MS/GA or able to obtain.
• 5+ years of structural design experience in power generation/heavy industrial facilities.

Responsibilities

• Produce and check structural design calculations and drawings
• Multi-task and prioritize multiple project assignments to meet deadlines
• Communicate effectively with Supervisor, project team and Plant contacts
• Develop scope and man-hour estimates for assigned projects
• Coordinate design activities with other disciplines
• Provide schedule and staffing input for projects
• Prepare cost estimates and material takeoffs
• Provide engineering support to Plants and Construction through all project phases
• Some travel to Birmingham office, sites, and client locations
