Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead Substation Physical Equipment & Standards, guiding design, operations and field personnel. You will work on projects with vendors to implement equipment that meets Southern Company needs.

Based out of Birmingham, AL or Forest Park, GA with a hybrid schedule (4 days in-office, 1 day remote) and up to 25% travel. Relocation assistance may be available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or electric utility experience is preferred.
• Autodesk experience would be beneficial.
• Experience with design, maintenance, construction, or operation of substations in the electric utility environment would be beneficial.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance for major or complex projects.
• Support and participate in development of design standards and criteria.
• Serve as a technical resource for consistency and problem resolution.
• Lead industry committees to ensure best designs are developed for Southern Company.
• Act as a resource for the Transmission training program and serve as an instructor in Training classes.
