Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a qualified administrator to support the Civil Service Commission and related activities. The role coordinates meeting requests and presentations with Sheriff and staff, researches agenda items, and oversees the employee grievance process.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or related field; an Associate's Degree with 2 years of related experience may substitute.
  • 3 years of related experience.
  • Strong computer and typing skills with spreadsheet, word processing, and databases.
  • Management and supervisory experience with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to complete tasks within tight deadlines and prioritize work.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all Civil Service Commission meeting requests and presentations with Sheriff and administrative staff, law enforcement and corrections associations.
  • Oversees the Sheriff's Office employee grievance process and coordinates grievance hearings with Civil Service Commissioners and legal offices.
  • Reviews and ensures policies and procedures align with state and federal laws, recommending changes as needed.
  • Coordinates with vendors to plan and implement the promotional testing process.
  • Maintains and organizes information related to Commission activities and meetings.

  • Coordinates all Civil Service Commission meeting requests and presentations with Sheriff and administrative staff, law enforcement and corrections associations. Researches agenda items.
  • Oversees the Sheriff's Office employee grievance process. Investigates employee grievances and helps resolve conflicts. Coordinates grievance hearings with Civil Service Commissioners, County Attorney's Office, all involved parties with their attorneys.
  • Reviews and ensures that policies and procedures within the Commission are consistent with state and federal policies, laws and regulations, and recommends changes as necessary.
  • Coordinates with vendors and the Sheriff's Office to plan, develop, and implement the written and verbal promotional testing process.
  • Responsible for administrative duties for the Civil Service Commission. Maintains and organizes information related to activities and meetings.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or directly related field; Associate's Degree and 2 years of job related experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree.
  • 3 years job related experience.
  • Strong computer and typing skills with a working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
  • Management and supervisory experience with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Capability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines and prioritize own/others' work.
STARTING SALARY RANGE:

Commensurate based on qualifications
