Primary responsibilities will be in Pennsylvania and New York with opportunities for work in surrounding states. The preferred location is in one of DU’s field offices in Syracuse, New York or Easton, Maryland. Working from a home office within the geographic area of primary responsibilities will be considered. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland and riparian restoration and enhancement projects. This position offers high job satisfaction for those interested in work that benefits wildlife and communities.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an EAC/ABET accredited program
  • Registered professional engineer with ability to obtain registrations in assigned states
  • Minimum 10 years of civil, water resources or related engineering design experience
  • Minimum 3 years of project management experience
  • Supervisory experience is a plus

Desirable qualifications include experience with Civil3D, ArcGIS, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design (grading, water control structure and pond design), erosion control, construction inspection, and project management. Background in ecological restoration, dam safety regulations, and design/implementation of nature‑based solutions will be viewed favorably. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self‑motivated, goal‑oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team‑based relationships.

Specific Duties
  • Preparation of proposal scope of work and budgets in close coordination with the Manager of Engineering Services and biological staff serving as project managers
  • Interpretation, selection, adaptation, and application of engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services
  • Completion of engineering designs, project plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, reports, and permit application documents for nature‑based features, dam rehabilitation, and wetland and riparian restoration practices
  • Managing multiple projects across geographic responsibilities, including reviewing work prepared by others, determining priorities, and maintaining project schedules and budgets
  • Coordination with internal and external stakeholders and representation of engineering designs to multidisciplinary project teams
  • Conducting field work and inspections and performing construction management oversight as needed (occasional), which may include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions
  • Reviewing contracts, ensuring contract compliance, and coordinating with consultants and contractors to meet project objectives
  • Mentoring and/or supervising engineering staff (technicians and/or engineers) and delegating tasks to direct reports, coordinating workload and resource allocation with the Manager of Engineering Services
Additional Requirements

Position will include occasional travel. Successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing. Remote work requires reliable transportation for meetings and site visits and insurance that meets DU's minimum requirements.

Benefits / Pay

Pay will be based on experience and education with a variable compensation incentive program. DU offers an exceptional benefit package, including comprehensive group medical, prescription, dental and vision insurance (spouse and dependent coverage), three weeks paid vacation, paid sick leave, and ten paid holidays; 401(k) plan with partial employer match; and tuition reimbursement.
