Job summary

Job description

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self‑motivated, experienced engineering technician to work in the Southern Regional Office in Richmond, TX. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers responsible for the planning, design, and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects within the Southwest Unit (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico).

Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the operation of various surveying equipment for topographic and construction surveys.
  • Serve as DU’s representative on construction projects, performing inspections to verify contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Prepare inspection reports and maintain project records.
  • Assist Regional Engineers and other technicians with various administrative duties.
Qualifications
  • Experience with topographic and construction surveying techniques is preferred.
  • Knowledge of heavy construction work methods, practices, materials, and equipment in coastal environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of project administration, construction inspection, and materials testing is preferred.
  • A two‑year technical degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the engineering/construction industry is desirable.
  • Must be able to operate ATV and outboard boats in coastal marsh environments.
  • Experience with surveying equipment (Trimble) is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D is desirable.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work with and solve problems in close team‑based relationships with peers, staff, supervisors, and public and private conservation partners.
  • Self‑motivated and goal oriented.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, independently, travel overnight, in inclement weather, and with minimal supervision in remote work environments.
