Job summary

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, seeks a self-motivated Senior Civil Engineer for the Vancouver Field Office in Vancouver, WA. You will join a team of biologists and engineers designing and constructing restoration projects across the Pacific Northwest.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering, a PE license in WA/OR, and 10+ years in civil or water resources engineering.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree.
  • A licensed Civil Engineer in the state(s) of Washington and/or Oregon.
  • 10 years of experience in civil, water resources or related engineering field.
  • Desirable qualifications include GPS surveying, AutoCAD Civil3D, hydrologic & hydraulic modeling, construction contracting, construction inspection and management, soil science, agricultural engineering, reinforced concrete, and levee/canal design.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, contract, and perform construction management on wetland, riparian, riverine and related habitat restoration projects in multiple states.
  • Lead projects in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho to support remote staff capacity.
  • Mentor, perform peer review, provide senior engineering support, and deliver project outcomes.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal personnel, landowners, and conservation partners.
  • Travel occasionally across the Pacific Northwest, Utah, and parts of California.

Desirable qualifications include experience in GPS surveying, AutoCAD Civil3D, hydrologic & hydraulic (H&H) modeling, construction contracting, construction inspection and management, soil science, agricultural engineering, reinforced concrete, and levee/canal design. Experience with tidal and estuary wetland restoration, stream restoration, and fish passage modifications would be beneficial. Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

Candidates must be self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships. Candidates must be able to perform field work that includes strenuous outdoor activity.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work under the Director of Engineering Services and will serve in a senior engineering role. Specific duties and responsibilities include planning, designing, contracting, and performing construction management on wetland, riparian, riverine and associated habitat restoration projects in states that may consist of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah. A priority focus area will be leading projects in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho to support remote staff capacity in this area. The individual will split time between mentoring, peer review, senior level engineering support, and a project delivery role. A close working relationship with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will require occasional travel throughout the Pacific Northwest, Utah, and areas of California. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Specific duties include:
  • Participation in team meetings to lead, strategize and grow the conservation program areas.
  • Supporting projects at a senior engineering level.
  • Performing engineering scoping, planning, design, and construction management on specific projects.
  • Preparation of project scopes of work and budgets for funding grants and proposals.
  • Preparation of project plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Preparation of bid documents, conducting pre-bid site meetings, and finalizing contractor selection.
  • Conducting field inspections and performing construction management oversight.
  • Acting as a contracting officer to ensure compliance and budget management.
  • Assisting in mentoring, peer review, coordination, training, and support for an engineering services team.

The position/s will require occasional outside work, possibly in inclement weather, and may require physical exertion or lifting as needed.

Benefits/Pay:

Salary Range $100,000- $150,000 Salary will commensurate withexperience and education with a variable compensation incentive program.
