Job summary

RS&H in Salem, VA invites applications for a Civil Field Engineering Inspection Intern for Summer 2027 to gain hands-on experience within our Transportation Construction Management team. You will be mentored by senior engineers while supporting field inspections, data collection, and reporting.

The ideal candidate is pursuing an ABET-accredited degree in a civil-related program, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and can collaborate in a team or work independently.

Qualifications

• Pursuing ABET-accredited degree in civil-related field.
• Ability to work independently with general supervision as well as within a collaborative team environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Good driving record with a valid driver’s license
• Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist, or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods
• Ability to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasks
• Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment, including fall protection
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and shake up to 20 pounds
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or visa transfer.

Responsibilities

• Support inspection teams with field inspections
• Verify the dimensions of prepared and completed work
• Collect and prepare data for evaluation
• Perform engineering with the use of computer-assisted engineering software and equipment
• Prepare reports for site operations activities, including materials used and completed work
• Provide support to engineering and project management associates
