Job summary

RS&H in Salem, VA invites applications for a Civil Field Engineering Inspection Intern for Summer 2027 to gain hands-on experience within our Transportation Construction Management team. You will be mentored by senior engineers while supporting field inspections, data collection, and reporting.

The ideal candidate is pursuing an ABET-accredited degree in a civil-related program, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and can collaborate in a team or work independently.

Qualifications

• Pursuing ABET-accredited degree in civil-related field.
• Ability to work independently with general supervision as well as within a collaborative team environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Good driving record with a valid driver’s license
• Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist, or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods
• Ability to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasks
• Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment, including fall protection
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and shake up to 20 pounds
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or visa transfer.

The salary range for this position in Virginia is $20 to $28 per hour, plus overtime pay at 1.5 times the regular rate for eligible hours worked. This range reflects the employer’s good‑faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location, where applicable.
