Job summary

Carlson McCain, LLC is seeking a Civil Field Engineer Co-op for summer and fall 2027 in Plymouth, Minnesota. You will support field construction oversight, document site activities, and assist senior engineers with data collection and reporting.

The role requires pursuing a civil/environmental or related degree, plus experience reading plans and familiarity with soil classification. Travel to sites, long days, and weekend work may occur; paid PTO is offered and training is provided.

Qualifications

Pursuing a relevant civil/environmental/geomatics degree.
Familiarity with USCS soil classification system.
Detail-oriented with strong documentation and technical writing.
Good time management and ability to work independently.
Clean driving record and ability to drive a company vehicle.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Previous CAD experience and ability to read plans is a plus.

Responsibilities

Oversee construction activities and monitor site progress.
Review plans and specifications and document site conditions.
Take photographs and prepare daily construction reports.
Compile testing and survey data and tabulate quantities.
Communicate with contractors and participate in meetings.
Operate GPS survey equipment when required and assist with field data collection.
Assist with preparation of technical reports and correspondence with clients, contractors, labs.
