Reports to: Vice President of Engineering

Description:

The Civil Engineer Project Manager will lead and support development and management for a wide variety of projects, mainly focusing on heavy civil engineering but also industrial facility design and construction.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to development projects.
  2. Develop and manage project schedules, pay estimates, project procedures, staffing requirements, and equipment resources needed to complete accurate and timely project production.
  3. Develop site designs that include calculations, research, layout with proper material selection, and permitting.
  4. Oversee creation of surface models utilizing Civil3D and/or other similar design software, including earthwork, hydrology and hydraulics, utilities, and roadway design.
  5. Support interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure project elements are accounted for.
  6. Create preliminary design concepts and alternatives to support cost estimating.
  7. Attend project meetings and provide coordination to resolve design issues.
  8. Lead designers in the use of data-driven design to make intelligent decisions on design solutions and processes.
  9. Provide mentorship to staff (EITs and technicians) to help them understand industry standards.
  10. Utilize knowledge of departmental design standards and applicable engineering codes to review drawings and documents for conformance.
  11. Work closely with the construction field in a collaborative manner to ensure project success.
  12. Negotiate change orders.
  13. Act as a liaison with clients and subcontractors to facilitate construction activities.
  14. Ensure supplies and equipment are ordered and delivered according to schedule.
  15. Obtain proper permits and licenses from authorities for construction sites.
  16. Ensure project completion in compliance with documents and quality standards.
  17. Review and finalize project costs and adjustments upon completion.
  18. Ensure quality control of services and deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional Engineering license in South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 4 months.
  • Experience in environmental engineering (water/wastewater/solid waste) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Willingness to travel and work in various weather conditions.
