Purpose of Position
Individuals in this position will play an important role in the department’s operations and will be closely involved in project delivery from the proposal through as-built stage. This role will entail developing proposals working with the Director of Business Development, managing projects, managing project teams, supervising staff, and scheduling resources and projects. This role will also entail operational improvement initiatives including, but not limited to process refinements, development of workflows, and process audits. This role will also entail planning, designing, and managing day-to-day operations of projects for the organization.
Essential Functions
- Discuss requirements with professionals
- Analyze survey, mapping and materials-testing data with computer modeling software
- Oversee and at times self-perform design and modeling work
- Oversee Project Team’s use of analysis tools and software to create engineered drawings for proposed improvements that meet client needs and project requirements; at times, self-performing this work may also be required
- Ensure that engineered drawings and project solutions meet local requirements, state laws, and generally accepted engineering best management practices
- Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis.
- Make judgments whether projects are workable by assessing materials, costs and time requirements
- Assess the environmental impact and risks connected to projects
- Prepare bids for vendors, and reporting to clients, public agencies and planning bodies
- Manage, direct and monitor progress during each phase of a project
- Ensure project designs meet legal guidelines, and health and safety requirements.
- Present findings to the public on topics such as bid proposals, environmental impact statements, or property descriptions.
- Manage the repair, maintenance, and replacement of public and private infrastructure.
- Schedule Projects, review and approve subconsultant invoices, and review project invoices
- Serve as technical lead for development of select/assigned proposals
- Schedule resources in the company’s preferred scheduling platform and project resources out to a specified time as directed by the Principal
- Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control on assigned projects in accordance with Company’s process/protocols
- Stamp assigned project plans, specifications, and calculations.

Physical Demands of Position
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit, stand and walk, use hands and fingers. The employee occasionally must reach above and below shoulder level, and lift/push/pull and/or carry up to 10 pounds. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
Environmental/Working Conditions
Engineers generally work in offices. However, many spend time outdoors at construction sites so they can monitor operations or solve problems onsite.

Job Specifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Current Wisconsin Engineer credential or ability to obtain within 2 years
- 8-15 years’ experience working in the field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills are beneficial
- Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, MicroStation, HEC-RAS, Hydragraphs/Hydraflow, tr-55
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
- Fundamentals of Project Management Training Required
