Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern to apply standard techniques to design and update engineering systems across market segments in Dallas, Texas.

You will assist lead engineers, perform data analysis, prepare presentations, and contribute to project duties while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA. Strong communication, leadership, and a proactive learning mindset are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with tasks using standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Support lead engineers with project duties across market segments.
  • Contribute to design updates and documentation.
  • Support transportation market activities like planning and design of bridges, roads, and rail-related projects.
  • Participate in data collection, analysis, and presentation efforts.
  • Engage in campus or community activities and maintain eligibility to work in the U.S.

Description

A Brief Overview

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments.

Transportation

The Transportation group is responsible for the planning and design of bridges, highways, ports, rail systems, streets and arterials, trails, and pathways with additional focus on stakeholder outreach, traffic engineering, long-range planning, policy development and more.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
