Job summary

ATCS is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for the 2027 Summer Internship Program in Newport News, VA. May/June through August 2027, you will work with our Civil Engineering team on site/civil and land development projects, with exposure to transportation design.

You will gain hands-on experience, assist with plans, calculations, and documentation, and collaborate with engineers to move projects from planning through completion.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Interest in land development, site/civil design, and/or transportation engineering.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supporting engineers with site/civil and land development design projects.
• Assisting with the preparation of site plans, grading, drainage, utility, and other civil design plans.
• Supporting transportation and roadway design projects, as opportunities arise.
• Assisting with engineering calculations, data collection, and technical documentation.
• Using engineering and design software to prepare plans, drawings, and other project deliverables.
• Supporting the preparation of reports, exhibits, and other project documentation.
• Collaborating with engineers and other team members to complete project tasks.
• Participating in project meetings and gaining exposure to the day‑to‑day work of a civil engineering team.
• Assisting with other technical and administrative tasks as needed.
