Job summary

Bohler’s Pittsburgh, PA office is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) for Summer 2027 to gain hands-on experience from concept through construction. You will be mentored by engineers and project managers and will contribute to real project work.

You will work with AutoCAD Civil 3D to support grading, stormwater, utility and site design, while learning permitting, zoning and field observation processes on diverse developments.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems Engineering or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-starter with ability to work independently and in teams.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D; training available if not proficient.
• Curiosity to learn and contribute to land development projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist with site design tasks and land development processes.
• Support engineers and designers on AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings.
• Research zoning ordinances and coordinate with local jurisdictions.
• Visit sites to observe field conditions and assist project teams.

About the Role

Bohler’s office in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) eager to learn, grow, and contribute to real-world site design projects. As a Summer 2027intern, you will gain insight into the daily operations of a civil engineering firm and understand the complete site development process, from concept to construction. By working alongside engineers, designers, and project managers, you will gain hands‑on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, supporting the design and permitting of commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed‑use developments.

What You’ll Do

• Experience the day‑to‑day operations of a civil engineering and site design firm
• Learn the stages of the land development and site design process
• Enhance your technical skills with hands‑on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to design:
  • Concept plans
  • Grading plans
  • Stormwater management plans
  • Utility system plans
  • Soil erosion and sediment control plans
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to coordinate and drive projects forward
• Research zoning ordinances and coordinate with local jurisdictions
• Visit sites to observe field conditions and see the engineering process in action
• Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to design and process improvements
