Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern in Minnesota to participate in field activities and a range of in-office projects supporting engineers.

The role includes plan specifications, AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings, GPS/Total Station operation, and data collection with exposure to roadway design, drainage analysis, and erosion control. Candidates must be enrolled in an engineering program and ready for outdoor work.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update lines with various project set drawings.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
• Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
• Assist with research, development and design of projects.
• Learn roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control concepts.
