Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. offers a Civil Engineer Intern role combining field and office work. You will support engineers on outdoor construction activities and in-office projects, with travel to Minot and Belcourt as part of the weekly schedule.

As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control while learning to use AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, GPS, and Total Station tools.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and updateredlines with various project set drawings.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
• Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
• Assist with research, development and design of projects.
