Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. offers a Civil Engineer Intern position combining fieldwork and in-office project support. You will assist in plan specs, estimates, AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings, and documentation of construction activities, while operating GPS and Total Station instruments.

Interns will gain exposure to roadway design, drainage analysis, and erosion control under hands-on mentorship, with opportunities for continued growth after graduation.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and updateredlines with project set drawings.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
• Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
• Assist with research, development and design of projects.
