Job summary

Gray AES in Lexington, KY is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to assist in developing civil design drawings, site plans, grading, and utility layouts under the guidance of senior engineers.

Candidates pursuing a Bachelor's in civil engineering with familiarity in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Office; strong communication, teamwork and willingness to learn are valued. This internship offers hands-on field and design exposure in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is preferred.
• Basic understanding of civil engineering principles (site layout, grading, drainage, utilities).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office; exposure to Bluebeam or stormwater modeling is a plus.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing civil design drawings and specifications including site plans and utility layouts.
• Support collection and analysis of site data such as topography, access, utilities, and zoning rules.
• Help prepare earthwork, drainage, and utility quantity calculations under supervision.
• Prepare field reports, submittals, and RFIs; maintain logs and documentation.
• Use Civil3D to create 2D/3D models with guidance from senior designers.
• Assist in site visits and field observations to verify design accuracy and compliance.
