Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers - Detroit District is seeking a Civil Engineer to provide technical support to project engineers under supervision. The position covers civil works design, site studies, and coordination of layouts for water-related infrastructure in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and potential licensure or progression toward registration. A Direct Hire Authority is used for qualified DoD personnel; travel and TDY are possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering from ABET-accredited program or other acceptable combination of education/experience.
• Knowledge of engineering science basics: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluids, thermodynamics and materials properties.
• Professional registration/licensure (EI/EIT/PE) or ability to obtain licensure; FE exam or equivalent considered.
• Combination of education and experience must meet 100% requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive studies and develops general designs of portions of civil works projects.
• Assists in engineering projects such as navigation locks, flood control dams, recreation facilities, and water-related structures.
• Collects and analyzes design data (topographic maps, field surveys, requirements) for planning.
• Prepares and coordinates designs including siting, layout, and materials control based on analysis.
• Investigates problems at existing facilities (structural defects, seepage, utilities) and makes recommendations.
• Reviews contract drawings or design memoranda prepared under A-E contract.
