Job summary

City of Detroit's Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is seeking an Engineer to perform engineering work for municipal projects, overseeing design, implementation, and delivery of consultant and contract services for system improvements.

The role covers preparation of plans and specifications, bid evaluation, contract administration, field support, and coordination with operations. A Michigan driver’s license and ability to travel to DWSD sites are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, sanitary, environmental, mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction administration tasks for municipal engineering projects.
• Prepare plans, drawings, specifications and detailed computations for municipal engineering projects.
• Prepare requests to approve hiring a consultant and evaluate proposals for consultant contracts.
• Evaluate bids for construction contracts.
• Attend construction meetings and review site surveys.
• Oversee testing related to proper maintenance and operation of equipment.
• Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties.
