Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer for our client in Paarl, Western Cape. The role focuses on planning, analysis, and design of transportation systems, including road networks and public transport facilities, with a hybrid work model.

The ideal candidate has a Pr.Eng or Candidate Pr.Eng with ECSA, 5+ years in transportation engineering, and proficiency with VISSIM, SIDRA, and TransCAD to support project coordination and reporting for impactful regional mobility projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization or strong interest in Transportation Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or Candidate Engineer registration with ECSA is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or road design.
• Proficiency in traffic analysis and modeling software (e.g., VISSIM, SIDRA INTERSECTION, TransCAD) is highly desirable.
• Solid understanding of traffic engineering principles, road design standards, and urban planning concepts.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing office-based teamwork with remote task completion.
• Familiarity with the Western Cape region and its transportation challenges is an advantage.
• A valid driver's license is necessary for site visits and meetings within the Paarl, Western Cape area.

Responsibilities

• Conduct traffic impact assessments and develop transportation planning studies for development projects.
• Design road layouts, intersection improvements, and traffic control measures.
• Develop and utilize transportation modeling software to analyze traffic flow, capacity, and network performance.
• Coordinate with municipal authorities, urban planners, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated project development.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations related to transportation projects.
• Assist in the preparation of construction drawings and specifications for transportation infrastructure.
• Review existing infrastructure and identify areas for improvement and optimization.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., SANS, municipal guidelines).
• Manage project tasks, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with project managers.
• Stay informed about advancements in transportation engineering and planning techniques.
