Job summary

Clackamas County Department of Transportation & Development is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to support design, plan and specification preparation for roadway and intersection improvements, pavement preservation, bridges, culverts, and drainage projects.

The role focuses on professional engineering design, project management and coordination across divisions, aiming to deliver high-quality transportation outcomes while mentoring staff and ensuring ethical, transparent operations.

Qualifications

• Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. E.) in the State of Oregon. Proof of registration required before final offer; out-of-state registrations via exam allowed if Oregon is obtained within 1 year.
• Experience applying engineering principles to the design/construction of transportation improvement projects.
• Project management experience.
• Experience communicating technical information orally and in writing to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Designs and prepares plans and specifications for public works projects including storm water collection systems, pavement and roadway improvements and traffic controls; prepares scope of work, project cost estimates and proposal reports.
• Serves as project engineer on engineering projects; leads the work of consultants, engineering technicians and other staff assigned to projects.
• Prepares reports and project cost estimates for federal, county, and city agencies; coordinates reimbursement billings, County matching payments and other financial matters related to grant funded transportation and improvement projects.
• Confers with the public and County staff on issues related to the County road system; communicates information by telephone, correspondence or personal contact.
• Oversees and conducts engineering studies; collects and analyzes field data; develops conclusions based on statistical and field evidence; designs traffic intersections, channelization, signs, signal and related structures.
• Reviews the design and engineering plans for pavement and road improvements, traffic controls, and infrastructure improvements.
