Job description

Bridge Practice

Michael Baker International has addressed bridge design, construction, and preservation challenges with innovative and sustainable solutions. Demonstrating its expertise in the bridge sector, the company has partnered with clients on a wide range of bridge types—from conventional grade separations to complex river crossings, including trusses, arches, box girders, and cable-stayed bridges.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform complex structural analysis and prepare design calculations using Midas, AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, STAAD, and similar software tools.
  2. Develop structural details and construction plans using MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  3. Assist and review design calculations performed by others.
  4. Prepare geometric layouts, construction specifications, and material quantity calculations.
  5. Coordinate and communicate effectively with other disciplines.
  6. Adhere to scope, schedule, and budget for structural tasks.
  7. Support bridge and structure proposal development through strong technical writing.
  8. Assist with proposal production and marketing initiatives.
  9. Potentially serve as discipline lead responsible for all aspects of the project discipline.
  10. Ensure quality standards and project deadlines are met.
  11. Provide regular status reports to the Project Manager.
  12. Build and maintain relationships within the organization and with clients such as NJDOT, NJ Turnpike Authority, Port Authority of NY and NJ, and other New York clients.
Professional Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with 5-10 years of bridge-related design experience; a Master's degree with emphasis on Structures is preferred.
  2. P.E. license in NJ; NY license is a plus.
  3. Experience with AASHTO LRFD design, Midas, and CSi Bridge software.
  4. Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  5. Experience with bridge rehabilitation design, seismic analysis, and rating analysis is desirable.
  6. Experience managing projects involving multiple disciplines.
  7. Strong communication, organizational, and design skills, with willingness to support proposal efforts.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is approximately $98,462 - $130,000, dependent on education, experience, skills, and location.
