A leading multidisciplinary engineering firm is looking to add a Civil Engineer specializing in Site Development to its Ohio team. The firm provides a broad range of professional services across engineering, architecture, surveying, construction management, and other infrastructure-related disciplines.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of civil site projects for both public and private clients. Working alongside senior project managers and experienced engineers, this individual will take ownership of design tasks, help coordinate project activities, and provide technical support and direction to less-experienced members of the team.
The role will involve a variety of site development work, including site planning and layout, grading, drainage and stormwater systems, utility design, erosion and sediment control, permitting, and construction support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop civil engineering solutions for site development projects from initial concepts through final design
- Produce and review technical drawings and plans covering site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater, erosion control, and construction details
- Complete engineering calculations and evaluate design solutions related to site grading, drainage, stormwater systems, utilities, and other civil infrastructure
- Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, surveyors, architects, technicians, clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities
- Prepare supporting engineering documentation, including technical reports, specifications, permit materials, cost estimates, and other project deliverables
- Assist with projects throughout their various stages, including planning, design, regulatory approvals, bidding, and construction
- Review design work and technical deliverables produced by junior-level engineers and design personnel
- Act as a technical resource for junior staff, providing direction, feedback, and professional development support
- Work with project managers to help monitor project scope, schedules, budgets, quality standards, and client requirements
- Attend project sites and assist with field assessments, investigations, inspections, and construction-related activities
- Assess technical challenges and develop effective, practical solutions that can be successfully implemented in the field
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with clients, internal teams, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies
- Represent the firm through participation in relevant industry, professional, and community activities
- Take on additional responsibilities as required to support project and team objectives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field
- Minimum of four years of professional civil engineering experience, ideally focused on site development, land development, or comparable infrastructure work
- Hands-on experience producing civil engineering plans for grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and erosion and sediment control
- Background working on a range of development projects, such as commercial, industrial, institutional, residential, municipal, or mixed-use sites
- EIT certification is required for consideration at the CE II level, while an active Ohio PE license is required for the CE III level
- Understanding of applicable permitting procedures, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements at the local, state, and federal levels
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling programs is beneficial
- Previous experience coordinating technical assignments and checking or reviewing work completed by junior engineering and design staff
- Ability to assist with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, quality assurance, and preparation of client deliverables
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical documentation
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage responsibilities independently
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with professionals across different technical disciplines
- Able to safely access construction areas and project sites while adhering to required health and safety procedures
