Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. invites civil engineering students for an internship that combines fieldwork on outdoor construction sites with in‑office engineering tasks. You will assist engineers and help document, plan, and estimate project activities.

As an intern, you will work on AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings, use GPS and Total Station survey instruments, and engage with software like MicroStation and ArcGIS. Learn roadway design, drainage analysis, and erosion control through hands‑on projects.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and availability for overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update drawings with revisions.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
• Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
• Assist with research, development and design of projects.
