Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. invites motivated students to join our Civil Engineering team as an intern. You will spend time in the field on outdoor construction phase activities and assist engineers on a variety of in-office projects.

Responsibilities include supporting plan specs and estimates, creating AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings, operating GPS and Total Station, and gaining exposure to roadway design, drainage analysis, and erosion control through hands-on experience.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and updateredlines with various project set drawings.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
• Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
• Assist with research, development and design of projects.
• Learn roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control.
