Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to lead the design and construction oversight of Capital Improvement Projects across drainage, paving, water and wastewater systems.

You will prepare and review plans, specs, reports and cost estimates, manage design consultants and contractors, and coordinate with multiple city departments while ensuring field observations and on-site inspections.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an engineering curriculum from an approved program (with satisfactory standing).
• Master's degree may substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
• Requires Texas Professional Engineer license; candidates from out-of-state must become licensed in Texas within six months of hire.
• Valid Texas Driver's License and driving compliance are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in administration and supervision of design and construction of Capital Improvement Projects (drainage, paving, water and wastewater).
• Prepare and/or review design and construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates.
• Review and process contracts, invoices, pay estimates, change orders, RFIs and council actions.
• Attend and conduct design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections.
• Supervise and manage design consultants and construction contractors.
• Investigate and respond to inquiries from City departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the public.
