Job summary

City of Houston is seeking an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to support the Office of the City Engineer. You will help update the IDM, draft specs and drawings, and coordinate meetings with engineers and stakeholders.

The role requires completion of an accredited engineering program and possession of an EIT certificate within five years of hire. No prior experience is required, but strong technical writing and communication skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from an approved engineering curriculum and possession of an Engineer-in-Training Certificate.
• No experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in updating the City's Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM) and write construction specifications and standard drawings.
• Schedule meetings, create agendas, and track minutes of meetings.
• Interact with the engineering community and propose solutions to design issues.
• Contributes to and assists in leading IDM and specification review meetings.
• Reviews project manuals to ensure compliance with current specifications.
• Assist Supervisor to complete tasks and special projects as required.
• Discusses engineering matters and provides guidance to consultants and the public on design requirements.
• Investigates inquiries from technical personnel and the public on design criteria and project specs.
• Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with customers and stakeholders.
• Reviews and evaluates products submitted by vendors for use in city infrastructure.
• Improves operations and processes as assigned.
