Description

The Town of Erie is seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Engineer III to join our Public Works Department. This position plays a key role in shaping the Town's infrastructure by managing the design and construction of capital improvement projects, reviewing development plans, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. Under the supervision of the Town Engineer, the Civil Engineer III will perform professional engineering work, collaborate with external agencies, lead and supervise engineers, and contribute to long-term planning, including the Town's 5-year Capital Improvement Plan. This role offers room for independent judgment and problem-solving, providing an exciting opportunity to impact our growing community. All staff are expected to adhere to the Town's mission, vision, and values.

Work Location: Town Hall - 645 Holbrook St, Erie CO 80516

Anticipated Work Schedule: Full-time (Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week) with some nights and weekends as needed.

Salary Range: $88,355/year - $106,026/year (anticipated hiring range); Full salary range up to $123,696/year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and reviews traffic studies, drainage submittals, engineering reports, and development plans.
  • Ensures conformance with engineering standards and Town requirements.
  • Interprets and enforces the Town's engineering standards and applicable codes.
  • Reviews land use proposals, agreements, easements, and legal descriptions.
  • Provides technical support during construction, including site visits and plan interpretation.
  • Recommends measures affecting land use, utilities, and community development.
  • Prepares cost estimates and manages design and construction of capital projects.
  • Serves as project engineer or inspector on construction projects.
  • Ensures compliance with stormwater permits.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Six years of responsible civil engineering experience.

Combination of education and experience may be considered.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Leadership or management experience.
  • Professional Management Professional (PMP).
  • Municipal experience.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
  • Strong presentation skills and experience with community engagement.

Licenses/Registrations:

  • Civil Engineer (PE) license in Colorado.
  • Valid driver's license.

Pre-employment screenings: Reference checks, criminal background, sex-offender registry, and DMV record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Principles of civil engineering, office software, CAD/GIS, contract management, effective communication, technical report writing, data analysis, and relationship building.

Environmental & Physical Factors: Office environment, travel, occasional exposure to outdoor conditions, and physical demands including sitting, standing, walking, and lifting.
