Job summary

City of Pearland, TX is hiring a full-time Engineer I to lead day-to-day operations within the Engineering and Public Works department’s Capital Projects division. The role focuses on planning, design review, construction, and operation of public works projects to improve municipal facilities and infrastructure.

The Engineer I will manage project scope, schedule, and budget, review plans, coordinate with consultants, and present updates to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Requires minimum one year engineering design experience and two years' experience in project management.
• EIT/PE licensure or equivalent certifications are preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver's License is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs project planning, develops a project charter, and defines scope, budget, schedule and risk.
• Supports capital improvement projects by plan review, quantity checks, and bid document preparation; reviews design phase submittals.
• Facilitates pre‑construction and progress meetings; conducts site visits and resolves field issues.
• Acts as liaison to citizens with concerns during design and construction.
• Reviews construction plans with contractors on-site to provide clarification and solutions.
• Presents CIP project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
• Develops CIP project scopes, budgets and schedules in the planning phase of the annual CIP process.
• Coordinates with ROW Acquisition manager to identify information for ROW acquisition.
• Provides project quality control and QA through proper documentation.
• Performs related work as assigned.
