Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is looking for a civil engineer to help design land-development projects in the Charlotte area. You will work on site development drawings and infrastructure design using Civil 3D and AutoCAD, supporting permitting and client coordination.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience, with EIT/PE preferred or a plan to obtain PE within a year. This is an on-site, full-time position with a focus on mentoring and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• 3+ years of experience designing land-development projects using Civil 3D.
• EIT or PE registration preferred (or ability to obtain PE within one year).
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• A client-service mindset, strong initiative, and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Prepare site-development construction drawings for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
• Design water, sewer, and storm-drainage infrastructure using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Develop engineering design considerations and support permitting efforts for land-development projects.
• Coordinate regularly with clients, project managers, and internal discipline teams.
• Produce and refine models in Civil 3D, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to project standards.
• Manage tasks to meet scope, schedule, and quality expectations.

On‑site: Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
