Job summary

City of Alexandria is hiring an Inspector I or II in the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services—Project Implementation. You will inspect sanitary and storm sewers, streets, sidewalks, and reinforced concrete to ensure compliance with plans, budget, time, and regulations.

The role requires knowledge of concrete, asphalt, and erosion control, plus the ability to maintain clear records and read civil drawings.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; knowledge in concrete, asphalt, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drains; at least three years field inspector experience.
• Certifications and training in erosion control and plan review; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and specs and recommend improvements.
• Inspect erosion and sediment control installations.
• Inspect construction work for compliance with plans, specs, and materials.
• Coordinate with utilities, consultants, City Departments, and outside agencies.
• Inspect excavation permits in ROW for public safety.
• Enforce compliance with City codes, approved plans, MOT plans, and specs.
• Work with contractors to implement field adjustments.
• Represent City to address public, HOA, and business concerns on infrastructure construction.
• Document work performed and maintain daily logs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
