Job summary

City of Alexandria is seeking a Division Chief of Permits and Inspections to provide high‑level leadership for permitting, plan review, utility permitting, property information, and right‑of‑way inspection activities. You will lead a diverse team, streamline processes, and ensure compliance with City codes while guiding complex development projects.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, 8+ years in public sector engineering, 3+ years in management, and Virginia PE licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required and Virginia Professional Engineer licensure preferred.
• Eight years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience including project management, infrastructure design, and construction in the public sector; three years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead permit processing, plan review, utility permitting, and inspections in City rights‑of‑way.
• Oversee staff including managers, engineers, inspectors, and support personnel.
• Manage budget development, financial reconciliation, and fund management for the division.
• Collaborate with development community, City departments, and external agencies to move projects forward.
• Represent T&ES and the City with residents, leadership, and external partners.
