Job summary

City of Springfield, MA is seeking a part-time Recreation Worker to lead a variety of programming at community centers, open gym, evening and summer enrichment programs. The role includes supervising seasonal staff and coordinating city-wide events with school staff and community groups.

Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of techniques, methods, and equipment for city-wide recreation programs.
Some knowledge of first aid.
Minimum of one year experience in planning, organizing, and evaluating special events.
Minimum of one year supervisory experience.
Work experience in recreation or related field.

Responsibilities

Plans and develops city-wide recreational programs including operating a community center and summer, open gym, and evening programs.
Organizes and coordinates special events on a city-wide basis.
Organizes and instructs volunteer and neighborhood groups assisting in these programs.
Evaluates programs, recommends improvements, requisitions equipment, schedules community center use, and reports on activities.
Supervises Head Recreation Leaders in summer, open gym, and evening programs.
Collaborates with school department staff and custodians to coordinate offerings.
Maintains program data collection forms, attendance, injuries, and related records.
Maintains a safe environment for participants and staff.
