Job summary

The Workers' Compensation Division of the Los Angeles City Attorney defends the City of Los Angeles in workers' compensation claims before the WCAB and represents the City’s interests in related appellate matters. Attorneys may handle mediation and arbitration in ADR programs and must travel throughout Southern California for court appearances.

Applicants must hold a license to practice law in California, with at least two years' experience in California workers' compensation law and familiarity

Qualifications

• Licensed attorney admitted to practice in California
• Two years of experience in California workers' compensation law preferred
• Ability to analyze medical reports and diagnostic records
• Understanding WCAB rules and hearing procedures
• Willingness to travel throughout Southern California for court appearances

Responsibilities

• Defend the City of Los Angeles in workers' compensation claims before WCAB
• Represent the City in cases filed by City employees
• Appear before WCAB and, when required, in State Appellate Courts
• Assist with ADR programs, mediation, and arbitration as needed
• Perform related duties as assigned
