Job summary

The City of Murphy Development Services Division seeks a Planning & Permit Technician to provide front-line customer service and administrative support for permitting, planning, zoning, inspections, and development-related processes. You will work with residents, contractors, and the public under the Planning Manager and alongside the Permit Coordinator to keep daily operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year experience in customer service, administrative support, permitting, or related field.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
• Ability to obtain ICC Permit Technician Certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Serve as frontline representative for Development Services with residents, contractors, developers, and the public via phone, email, and in-person contact.
• Provide information on permit applications, documentation, procedures, inspections, fees, and development processes.
• Assist applicants with permit forms, submittal requirements, and general permitting questions.
• Receive and review permit applications and related documents for completeness before routing for technical review.
• Enter, update, and maintain permit information in the city’s permitting software system.
• Process contractor registrations and maintain licensing records.
• Support departmental reporting, correspondence, and special projects.
