Job summary

The City of Fremont is seeking a Community Development Technician to provide frontline customer service, process building and development permits, and support planning and zoning functions. You will assist applicants, collect fees, and track plan review progress with multiple City departments.

Typical duties include data entry, issuing over‑the‑counter permits, and preparing reports. This role requires strong written and verbal communication and a valid California drivers license, with ICC

Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent plus college coursework in public planning or related subjects, and two years of experience in the permit technician field.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
  • ICC Permit Technician Certificate within six months of date of hire.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to provide excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public at the front counter and by phone regarding building and development review/permit requirements.
  • Accept building permit and development review applications; review for completeness.
  • Enter permit data into an automated database; route plans for review and track status.
  • Coordinate with GIS staff and other departments; prepare reports and correspondence.
