Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach Development Services Center (DSC) with the Department of Planning and Community Development is seeking a Planner I/II to join our team. The position may be classified as a Planner I or Planner II depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Qualifications

BA/BS in Urban Planning, Geography, Surveying, Real Estate Law or related field.
MS in Urban Planning.
1 yr experience with subdivision plat, legal document review or preparation.
1 yr experience with real estate/court related research for legal document review or preparation.
1 yr experience with municipal development codes pertaining to subdivision and land development.
1 yr experience in reviewing site plans and subdivision construction plans.
AICP certification, licensed land surveyor.

Responsibilities

Performs City Planning research and analysis duties.
Interprets and applies codes, policies, laws and regs for subdivision, zoning, land use.
Reviews subdivision plats, easements, agreements and other legal docs.
Coordinates comments from City review agencies and communicates with professionals and developers.
Reviews site plans and subdivision plans for compliance with ordinances.
Provides information and support regarding the development review process to the public and City staff.
