Job summary

The City of Kennesaw, Georgia, seeks an ethical, approachable, and community‑oriented City Manager to lead the city through redevelopment, increased density, and a downtown focus while preserving its character. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong public leadership and work to balance growth with fiscal stewardship.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Mayor & Council, staff, residents, and regional partners to guide long‑term planning, service delivery, and infrastructure

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration/Management, Urban Planning or related degree from an accredited university.
• A master’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of five (5) years of executive management experience in a local government as a city or county manager, deputy manager, or upper-level executive manager in a similarly complex organization.
• Evidence of continued professional development such as the ICMA Credentialed Manager designation is a positive indicator.

Responsibilities

• Lead the City Manager's office and oversee daily operations.
• Direct department heads and ensure fiscal responsibility while implementing policies.
• Collaborate with Mayor & Council, staff, business leaders, and residents to advance a shared vision for growth and sustainability.
• Promote best practices in local government tailored to a growing community.
