Job summary

The City of Kennesaw is seeking a Public Works Director to lead the department and guide transformative infrastructure initiatives in a fast-growing Georgia city. This executive role oversees multiple divisions and reports through city management to advance world-class services.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering with substantial experience in public works, plus licensure and a track record in strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering with ≥5 years of progressively responsible experience in Public Works or Engineering.
• Master’s degree in a non-technical field with ≥8 years of progressively responsible experience in Public Works or Engineering; equivalency may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership for the Public Works Department, including Administration, Streets, ROW, Fleet/Shop, and Stormwater divisions.
• Oversee planning, technical oversight, and engagement with internal and external stakeholders to deliver major public infrastructure projects.
• Balance complex planning, engineering, and transit corridor redevelopment to strengthen city infrastructure and services.
• Lead a team of 33 authorized positions and guide development of the city’s physical foundation and growth.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering

Master’s degree in a non-technical field + 8 years experience

Georgia driver's license
