Job summary

City of Valdosta, GA seeks an experienced IT Director to lead the city’s information technology operations, delivering secure, reliable services to the Mayor, Council, and all city departments.

The role directs IT strategy, budgeting, cyber-security, vendor management, and staff supervision, coordinating with department heads to meet City objectives.

This position requires collaboration across multiple agencies and a commitment to cost-efficient, scalable technology solutions.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of budgeting and procurement for IT
• Knowledge of city government IT needs
• Knowledge of personnel management principles
• Knowledge of contract management principles
• Knowledge of information security principles
• Skill in developing IT strategies for a complex organization
• Skill in problem solving and prioritization
• Experience directing IT divisions, usually 5+ years
• Possession of or ability to obtain a Georgia driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Directs IT department operations to deliver technology services to the Mayor, Council, and all elected city offices.
• Plans and implements strategies to deliver cost-efficient, effective, secure, and reliable IT services that meet the city’s goals.
• Develops and oversees IT budgets and monitors all technology purchases through the city.
• Consults with department heads and the City Manager to identify technology needs and solutions.
• Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
• Provides direction for the IT Department with respect to strategic planning, architecture, and design.
• Provides direction for city cyber-security operations.
• Researches, evaluates, and purchases hardware and software; presents recommendations to the City Manager and M&C as necessary.
• Manages vendors, contractors, and service providers, including contract negotiations.
• Develops, presents, and implements IT policies and procedures for the city.
• Implements, monitors, and manages systems at all levels, including IT security.
• Provides top-tier support for help desk, network, and server administration functions.
