Job summary
The City of Mountain Brook is seeking a City Engineer to oversee planning, direction, coordination, and inspection of engineering activities related to traffic, roadway, and drainage systems. The City Engineer reviews plans to ensure that proposed construction projects are feasible and constructed as designed.
The position collaborates with contractors, consultants, and internal staff to review plans, identify concerns, and recommend revisions.
Qualifications
- PE license in Alabama or eligible by reciprocity within 6 months.
- ABET-accredited civil engineering degree required.
- Experience leading public works design/construction projects.
- Experience with bids, RFPs, contracts and contractor coordination.
Responsibilities
- Plans, directs, coordinates and oversees engineering activities for traffic, roadway and drainage systems.
- Reviews and approves plans to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
- Investigates citizen requests and faults in public infrastructure and recommends repairs.
- Monitors construction sites, enforces codes and permits, and acts on violations.
- Leads bid process: scope, announcements, and bid selection for large projects.
- Supervises staff, assigns work and provides training and feedback.
- Manages departmental budget and monitors expenditures within annual limits.
