Job summary

The City of Des Plaines is seeking an experienced City Engineer to lead the Engineering Division and oversee municipal infrastructure, capital improvement projects, and development review.

You will supervise staff, manage budgets and contracts, and collaborate with City departments, developers, and government agencies. Illinois PE license required with potential CFM certification within 18 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Seven years of civil engineering experience, including three years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Ability to obtain Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily operations and supervise Engineering Division staff.
• Oversee infrastructure projects involving roads, water systems, sewers, and drainage.
• Review and approve engineering plans and development proposals.
• Manage capital improvement projects, budgets, contracts, and grant funding.
• Coordinate with government agencies, consultants, and developers.
• Provide technical guidance and present recommendations to City officials.
