Job summary

Dallas County Jail System is seeking a part-time Detention Service Officer to supervise inmates during booking, holdover, and confinement within a secure facility. You will handle fingerprinting, inmate identification, and escort duties, ensuring safety and order throughout processing and transfers.

The role requires strong verbal and written communication, basic education, and readiness for background checks, polygraph, and medical screenings.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited High School/GED or completion of 12 college hours with C or better.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must be at least 18 years old; successful completion of polygraph and psychological exams and extensive background investigation.
• One year of jailer experience and completion of relevant field training to progress to Detention Service Officer.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inmates during booking, holdover, confinement, visitation, and release to ensure safety and security.
• Perform searches, fingerprinting, and recording of inmate information; manage inmate movement and housing assignments.
• Escort inmates to and from court, library, and other facilities; manage personal property and clothing exchanges.
• Monitor inmate behavior, operate doors/elevators, and conduct routine searches to locate contraband.
• Oversee meals, clothing exchanges, sanitation, and kitchen security within the facility.
