The St. Louis Public Library is seeking a Circulation Assistant at the Charing Cross location in St. Louis, MO. This part-time role focuses on serving the public, processing materials, and supporting branch operations.

Primary duties include helping with card registrations, checkout/return, and customer inquiries. Flexible hours include Tue–Thu afternoons and Fri–Sat shifts, with occasional Sundays at Schlafly location.

Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis. This position needs someone who is comfortable working with the public and is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service.

In this role you will:

• Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning materials.
• Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.
• Provide assistance to customers with Library equipment.
• Restock and shelve materials, including shelf-reading, as necessary.
• Assist in opening and closing the location.

You will need to be:

• Friendly, patient, and able to multitask while assisting customers.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
• Capable of effectively providing information and responding to questions from customers and staff.
• Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.

You will need to have:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), previous customer service experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Comfort with using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.
