Job summary

St. Louis Public Library's Carpenter Branch is seeking a Circulation Assistant (Part Time) to help customers register for library cards, check out and return materials, and handle payments.

The ideal candidate is friendly, organized, and capable of multitasking while delivering excellent customer service. You will assist with circulating materials, handling payments, and helping patrons with library equipment; restocking and shelving; and opening/closing the location.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous customer service experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Comfort with using and learning new technology.

In this role you will:

Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning materials.

Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.

Assist in opening and closing the location.

You will need to be:

Friendly, patient, and able to multitask while assisting customers.

Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.

Capable of effectively providing information and responding to questions from customers and staff.

Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.

You will need to have:

Hours for this position are:

Sunday from 12:45-5:15, Monday from 3:45-8:15, and Friday & Saturday from 10:00-3:30, hours subject to change.

A Carnegie Library originally built in 1927, Carpenter Library has been renovated and expanded at its original location

Offers public services on one floor

Spaces include a computer lab, auditorium, 4 quiet rooms, and mezzanine area

Carpenter Library has been serving south-city residents for over 99 years. The branch is located at the end of the South Grand 'International District' and serves a diverse population, including the neighborhoods of Tower Grove East, Tower Grove South, Benton Park, Benton Park West, and Dutchtown.
