Job summary

St. Louis Public Library seeks a Circulation Assistant at the Charing Cross location to help customers with registrations, checkout, and returns.

You will also handle payments, assist with library equipment, restock shelves, and support opening/closing tasks in a fast-paced, friendly environment. The ideal candidate prioritizes excellent customer service, is organized, patient, and comfortable using new technology as the library evolves.

In this role you will:

• Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning materials.
• Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.
• Provide assistance to customers with Library equipment.
• Restock and shelve materials, including shelf-reading, as necessary.
• Assist in opening and closing the location.

You will need to be:

• Friendly, patient, and able to multitask while assisting customers.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
• Capable of effectively providing information and responding to questions from customers and staff.
• Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.

You will need to have:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), previous customer service experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Comfort with using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.
